Russell Crowe: Watch the Director’s Cut of Robin Hood

According to CinemaDrame News Agency, Russell Crowe says the best version of Robin Hood is its director’s cut, and that the cast and crew believed this was the version that would be released. Robin Hood, directed by Ridley Scott, did not receive a positive response from audiences and critics, but grossed $321 million worldwide.

Nearly 17 years after the film’s premiere in Cannes, Crowe has confirmed that a director’s cut of Robin Hood exists. Writing on the social media platform X, he said this cut is 17 minutes longer than the theatrical release: “The director’s cut was the film we thought they were going to release. But they removed 17 minutes of it for the cinema release. In theaters, one minute is a long time. Imagine 17 minutes of the emotional connective tissue of your favorite film being cut… Watch the director’s cut.”

The version released under the title “Director’s Cut” runs 2 hours and 35 minutes, though another available version is only four minutes shorter.

Robin Hood marked the fifth collaboration between Crowe and Scott and was produced on a $237 million budget. The film also starred Cate Blanchett, Oscar Isaac, William Hurt, Lea Seydoux, and Mark Strong.

Two years ago, in an interview with People, Crowe recalled that he broke a bone in his leg while filming Robin Hood but did not realize it for years: “We were supposed to prepare the ground and put a pad underneath, but we were in a rush to shoot in the fading light. I remember thinking as I jumped, ‘I’m going to get hurt.’”
